
Continuing Professional Education
Continuing education is a key benefit of membership in the Institute of Management Accountants.
The Dallas Fort Worth Area Chapter provides technical and professional development meetings that are an excellent opportunity to acquire continuing professional education (CPE*) credits. In excess of 20 hours of CPE are offered annually. Go to our Schedule Page for a current listing of the courses offered.
IMA also offers numerous events, educational sessions, webinars and self-study options throughout the year to help you meet your educational objectives. For more information, go to IMA - Professional Development.
If you have earned the Certified Management Accountant (CMA designation) or the Certified Financial Manager (CFM designation), you are required to have a minimum of thirty hours of continuing education annually. A minimum of 2 hours of the 30 must be appropriate Ethics training. Both the Dallas Fort Worth Area Chapter and IMA offer courses which will enable you to meet this requirement.
* The Dallas Fort Worth Area Chapter of IMA is registered with the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA) to offer CPE to CPAs, ID #001021.
CMA Exam Preparation
If you are pursuing the CMA designation, the Dallas Fort Worth Area Chapter has partnered with Gleim to provide a Professor-Led CMA Review Course. For more details on the course, please go to our CMA Review Course Website.
Gleim also provides an extensive self-study course for the CMA exam. As a member of the Dallas Fort Worth Area Chapter, you are eligible for significant discounts (from 20-32%) on any of Gleim's CMA materials, as well as Gleim's online CPE. Scholarships
The Walter Massie Memorial Education Fund was established in 1989 in memory of Past President Walter Massie to provide scholarship awards to students attending universities or colleges and for special education projects sponsored by the Dallas Fort Worth Area Chapter. Applications must be submitted to the Chapter President (e-mail/mailing address on Contact Page) by April 1st, utilizing the IMA Scholarship Application Form available at IMA National Scholarship Program. Individuals who are also applying for the National IMA Scholarships may provide the chapter with a copy of their National application; however, the national and chapter scholarships are independent of each other. The chapter plans to provide $2,000 in scholarships, minimum scholarship $1,000, in spring 2010. For more information, go to Walter Massie Memorial Education Fund. National IMA MEF and Stuart Cameron and Margaret McLeod Memorial Scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 are also available, see IMA National Scholarship Program. Applications are due by February 15th.
IMA National Student Case Competition
College and university groups are encouraged to participate in the IMA National Student Case Competition.
Each campus of any college/university is eligible to select a team of three to five members to determine the best solution for the management accounting Case. No more than 50% of team members may be Masters Degree candidates and no Doctoral Degree candidates may be selected. Although faculty members are encouraged to promote this Competition on their campus, no faculty or other professional assistance is allowed in solving or presenting the Case. Monetary awards will be made to the schools of the top 4 teams.

Research Grants
IMA Foundation for Applied Research (FAR) grants are available for projects that promote thought leadership, create new knowledge, and offer innovative ideas for the management accounting profession. For more information, go to Foundation for Applied Research.
